Diatomaceous earth (D.E.) filters and cartridge filters are the two most common types of residential swimming pool filters. Sand filters are also used however, they are more often found in commercial applications. D.E pool filters consist of collection grids, top and bottom manifolds, filtering media (D.E.), water tight gaskets, an air release and a back wash valve. All of these parts over time will fail and when they do it is important that you make all necessary repairs as soon as possible to help prevent other problems from occurring with your pool filtration and sanitization. Water tight gaskets should be replaced every 2-3 pool filter cleans or when leaking. Other pool filter parts should be inspected and replaced when needed.
Cartridge filters may consist of 1-4 cylindrical cartridges, cartridge manifold, water tight gaskets, and an air release valve. When any of these pool filter parts fail they will need to be replaced to ensure there are no leaks or loss of sanitization that might cause further problems with the swimming pool or spa.
